Meedia- ja reklaamikunsti osakond

The strength of Media And Advertisement Design Department is multifaceted nature. The department’s curriculum can be divided into two larger blocks: graphic design and media design. The curriculum resposible lecturer is the head of the department Jaanus Eensalu.

  1. Graphic design covers subjects concerned with print media. Graphic design is mostly studied during the first two years, but good knowledge in this subject forms the basis for all future professional projects. Composition and styling, print technologies, typography, professional drawing, photo manipulation, desktop publishing, packaging design, advertising technology, corporate and info graphics are some amongst many subject matters taught as a part of the Graphic design curriculum. Responsible lecturer is Professor Marko Kekišev.
  2. Media design covers subjects concerned with video editing, web media and interactive multimedia, animation and 3D-graphics. Amongst the subject matters lectured as a part of media design are video directing, video montage, special effects and animation, animation theory and techniques, 3D-graphics, Flash, user interface design, web design, sound design, virtual space etc. Responsible lecturer is Professor Raivo Kelomees.

Students get both a theoretical knowledge as well as a practical experience in both of these fields. Practical projects and collaboration with real customers are an important part of the curriculum.
The department’s students are actively partaking in local and international competitions and festivals, where they have often received noteworthy results.

Diploma works, presented at the end of the studies, are products of graphic design, audio-visual and interactive media: interactive presentations, web site designs, movies, book designs, complete advertising projects, corporate graphics solutions etc.

Students who have graduated from the Media and Advertisement Design Department are working as designers, creative directors, illustrators and web designers in different media and advertising agencies. Many have started their own companies or are working as successful freelancers. Numerous alumni have also continued their studies on a graduate level.
